My dog free florida trip updates

October 6, 2009
greetings from hell!! Hell is quite beautiful (florida), but humid and hot. having such a cool summer up north, the heat hit like a ton of bricks. I was a good girl and studied on the plane.

from the time we left the airport to my parents home town, there was not a single exit ramp with a mcD. how crazy is that. there were no huge billboards. just huge walls on both sides. kind of like playing cutes and ladders in real life... it was like one big chute from orland to Leesburg.

I have already had the 2 best burgers ever... bought one for lunch, then turned around and went to a cook out. sure know how to cook burgers down here. The people my parents hang around with are wonderful! so fun, and so nice. it was a great time. esp considering that they have no dogs... and are old snow birds. haha... i mean what is there to talk about but dogs? the park is no dogs. what is wrong with that???
the sheets on my bed are white... i threw a dart t-shirt on the bed, in the dark it looked like a dog on the bed... having so many, my first thought is who is that... i miss the furries. i wish i could of brought just one, not that they would like the heat any more than i do.
after dinner, dad and i walked the 60 feet to the lake and he told me about the size and how it connects to the other lakes... i am looking forward to getting up early one morning and going to dora canal. or door or something like that. sat on the pier and enjoyed the lake
this morning i went for a walk..
you really dont want to walk along the lake because of the tall grass... there are alligators everywhere. i have not seen any yet. they do not come out when it is hot.
not sure what we are doing today.
Dad is having a rough time. he can walk a little, but needs the wheel chair to go anywhere. sometimes have to lift his hand to put on wheel chair control. but man can that chair go!!
guess that is it for now. will get the camera out later and take some pics.

well, another day in hell.  lets see, on the news tonight, they said that it would feel like 106 degrees tomorrow.  that is insane.

This morning I went to the flea market with Deb and Marilee (not sure of the spelling) it was fun.  I bought tomatoes dried fruit and some other items that will soon be rotting.  Then we stopped at a dead man’s store.  That is the term for a thrift store.  Then lunch at..  hum, have to fill that in later.  Then I went to look at furniture that was for sale.  I got to hold a min pin for an hour.  I wanted to turn her upside down, it felt more like I was holding a bat.  fortunately she was purchased at a local flee market and was so terrified that it was more like holding a convulsing bat because all she did was shake in fear. She was kind of cute in a dead bat kind of way.

Then we had pizza with Marilee and Deb and their husbands.

The best part of the day was the boat ride.  It cooled down enough that the ride was very enjoyable.  I saw a LOT of birds.  There was a gator crossing the lane that was saw from a distance.  I took some pics, but I doubt that they will turn out, it was getting dark and my dad's camera is a bit different than mine to use.  Not sure the pics will be in focus.  The ride was about 45 minutes.  We docked at dusk.

Tomorrow we may venture to the ocean.

OCTOBER 9, 2009

As luck may have it, the temperature is already climbing toward the boiling point of blood and it is not even 9 am.  We are trying to decide where to go

Went to Homosassa park west of here about an hour.  It is a small park with manatees.
http://www.manateecam.com/

To enter the park, you can take a 20 min boat ride or drive to a different enterence.  We took the 20 minute boat ride.  I believe the park is quite large, bu only a small area is open to the public.  I got to see the manatees.  very cool.  A hippo named Louie.  The interesting thing was that the bobcat was out so you got to see him.  AND the I believe it was a Florida cougar was out and wlaked around.  whenever I go to the zoo, i never get to see the cats except curled up in a corner somewhere.  So, that was neat.  The park also has injured birds.  So, I got to see a baled eagle close up as well as other birds.  I took some pictures, but not sure how to hoop my dad's camera up to the computer... so eventually I will put a couple pics up.

The weahter was not too terrible due to lots of shade and a slight breeze.

It was a nice park, and an enjoyable day.

Oh yea, i forgot, there were 3 male red wolves that were a year old, litter mates.  they were up moving around... so it was interesting to watch their movement and see their structure

Birds Everywhere!
The birds of prey are injured birds that were rescued

I think this is the eagle that was shot in the wing.  The wing had to be removed.
yesterday went on boat ride.   Started out on like Griffin, went through Haines Creek to Lake Eustis.  We went through a small lock, Griffin is lower than the other lakes by about 4 feet.  From there we went down the Dora Canal into Lake Dora.  While we were on Lake Dora a storm rolled in.  We decided to head back int the
Dora Canal to ride the storm out.  WOW did it rain and the sky was filled with lightning.  We were soaked.  We road out the worst of the storm under a bridge.  With all the water, I decided to not get the camera out.
